Dr. Emad Ahmed is board-certified in nephrology and internal medicine. Dr. Ahmed opened Kidney Clinic of Athens in March 2002. Dr. Ahmed did his internship and residency under the care of Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Queens General Medical Center. After completing Internal Medicine Residency, Dr. Ahmed did fellowship nephrology and hypertension under New York Medical College at Saint Vincent Hospital in New York. Dr. Ahmed specializes in caring for Dialysis Care, Kidney Disease and Hypertension Management patients, in the Athens and surrounding area. Dr. Ahmed is affiliated with several different dialysis clinics in Athens, Hartwell, Greensboro, Elberton, Winder and Royston. Dr. Ahmed is the medical director of Classic City Dialysis in Athens and also, DaVita Dialysis in Elberton. Dr. Ahmed is actively involved with Augusta University and University of Georgia. Currently, he has a position of Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Ahmed’s areas of interest include, hypotension and hypertension management, chronic kidney disease management in patients to help prevent or delay the initiation of dialysis, as well as anemia management. Dr. Ahmed is a member of staff at Piedmont Athens Regional, St. Marys Hospital and Landmark Hospital, where he proivdes consults and care to his patients. Dr. Ahmed lives in Athens, with his wife Firoza, they have 3 children, Fariha, Fardin and Aisha. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Omar Mushfiq graduated from Chittagong University Medical School in Bangladesh and came to the US to study Public Health. He studied epidemiology and received his Masters degree in Public Health from Harvard University. After graduation he worked as Study Coordinator in a research project jointly conducted by Harvard University and the Veterans Administration Clinic in Boston. After two years in research he returned to clinical medicine. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. He then joined the nephrology fellowship program at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia. After successfully completing fellowship training, Dr. Mushfiq worked as a nephrologist in New Jersey for 2 years. In 2006 Dr. Mushfiq and his wife moved to Atlanta to be close to family. He worked as a nephrologist in a suburb near Atlanta for 2 years. In 2008 he moved to Athens to join Dr. Ahmed at the Kidney Clinic of Athens and has practiced here since then. Dr. Mushfiq has been taking care of patients with kidney disease and hypertension for over 14 years. He sees patients in our offices in Athens, Elberton, Hartwell and Winder. He also provides service as a consultant nephrologist at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center and St. Mary's Hospital in Athens and is a member of their medical staff. Dr. Mushfiq lives in Athens with his wife and two boys aged 13 and 14. His wife, Dr. Salma Ahsan is a physician who specializes in treatment of autism and children with special needs. Dr. Mushfiq is a sports fan and likes reading and travelling.
Dr. Geoff Golembiewski is a near lifelong native of Athens, having moved to the Classic City at the wee age of 3 in 1964. Dr. “G, “ as he is known to most patients, was the co-valedictorian of Clarke Central High School Class of 1979, and earned 6 varsity athletic letters (3each in basketball and baseball). He majored in English and pre-medical studies at Duke University, graduation summa cum laude and earning Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1983. Dr. “G,” as a member of the US Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program, then graduated in the top one-quarter of his class from the Emory University School of Medicine in 1987. As a captain in the Air Force, Golembiewski completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the well-known Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, TX (Lackland AFB). He then trained in that institution’s nephrology fellowship program from ’90-’92 under the tutelage of Dr. Charles R. Nolan, a fantastic clinical/teacher/widely published author and researcher. Dr.”G” was then assigned to the Keesler USAF Medical Center as a staff nephrologist from 1992-95, where he was promoted to the rank of major prior to an honorable discharge from the service. Dr. “G” moved his family back to his hometown of Athens in the mid-90’s and established the Northeast Georgia Nephrology and Hypertension Clinic. As the 3rd nephrologist to ever practice nephrology in Athens, Dr. “G” served the community for nearly 20 years as a solo nephrologist. Dr. “G” was blessed to join the patient- centered and successful Kidney Clinic of Athens in 2015. Dr. G has two daughters, Elizabeth and, Eleanor.Dr. G enjoys Christian worship, spending time with his grandson, hiking and high school hoops fandom.
Dr. M. Hisham Bashir graduated medical school from King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan,
on a full Academic Scholarship. Dr. Bashir then completed his Internal Medicine Residency at The West
Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, followed by a Hospital Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester,
MN, and a Nephrology Fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He is board-certified
in Nephrology and Internal Medicine.
Since moving to Athens in 2013, Dr. Bashir has served as a nephrologist with Kidney Clinic of Athens. He
treats patients in Athens, Greensboro, Hartwell, Winder, and Elberton. He is also the Medical Director
for Athens East DaVita Dialysis Center, as well as a consulting nephrologist with Piedmont Athens
Regional Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA.
In 2020, Dr. Bashir was 1 of 50 people in the entire country to receive the Mazda Hero Award for service
excellence during the Covid pandemic.
During his spare time, Dr. Bashir enjoys spending time with family and friends, and traveling.
